Biography

Kate Chopin was born February 8,1850 in St. Louis Missouri. She was the second child to Thomas O’Flaherty,who was Irish, and Eliza Faris, who was French. At a young age she lost her father(1855) in a railroad accident. Later in 1863, her loved great-grandmother died. Her upbringing was done by mostly women. During the civil war, she was in St. Louis Missouri. Her brother also died at this time due to typhoid fever. She was very beautiful and at the age of 19 she met Oscar Chopin of Natchitoches Parish. They got married in 1870 and traveld plenty after. They had five screenshot-2016-11-29-at-5-20-17-pmsons and a daughter between 1871-1879. They had a total of 3 different homes because of financial issues throughout their life all in New Orleans.Her husband did have great business as a cotton factor.In 1882 her husband died of malaria and after this tragic event she started to Write. Throughout her life she wrote a lot and was greatly critisized or complemted. Much of her personal writing was seen as femenist. Some of her writing became very well-known in both good and bad. August 22, 1904 she died.
