Mdm. Ratignolle, Edna, and Robert form a circle talked and each went about their own business. Robert is a player who likes to go after married women and at one point “passion for Mdm. Ratignolle:sleepless nights of consuming flames”(pg.21). Edna paints Mdm. R as she works on the cloth. Robert is also there talking and sits next to Edna to look at her work. People though Robert was devoted to Edna like he had done with others. There for she is more cautious and rejects the invite to go swimming after Mdm. R leaves. The kids are playing and come to get candy but they were on their own. Robert convinces Edna to go and “walked away together toward the beach”(pg.24).
