After leaving the Lebrun’s Edna goes to Mademoiselle’s. Its a small home but the space is put to well use. The first thing Edna spots upon her arrival is the piano. Mademoiselle is very surprised but greatly impressed by her visitor. Edna is offered a cup of coffee which she acceptes. As they converse Mademoiselle tells Edna that she has revived a letter from Robert. Edna is hit because he has written to Mademoiselle but when she finds out that the letter is more meant to her(Edna) she’s relieved. She asks to read the letter but is rejected. They change to talk about how life is going, like Edna taking up on painting. They eventually come back to the letter and finally Mademoiselle lets Edna read it. While she reads it Mademoiselle plays Chopin impromptu. Edna moves to where light is due to it being late in the day so she can read it. She sobs to the point it was damp with tears. Then leaves but not before asking for permission to come back. After her departure Mademoiselle puts the letter back in the envelope and replaced it in the table drawer.
