After Mr.Pontellier leaves his wife and Robert keep talking. Ther conversation goes all over, from what they want to do and what they have done. They are both very interested in one another. Robert learns about her family after Edna has read and received a letter from her sister, who was getting married.Their conversation goes on until “it was time for her to dress for early dinner”(pg.10). She goes on about her duties and he “amused himself with the little Pontellier children, who were very fond of him”(pg.11)
Mr. P doesn’t return home till very late at night. Everyone is sleeping. He comes and talks to his wife who is asleep but ends waking her up to take care of the children. “Raoul had a high fever and needed looking after ” (pg.12). Edna says that they were fine but Mr. P thinks she is wrong and isn’t a good mother at all. Edna cries for a long time and her husband simply falls asleep. The next day he leaves “to the city to his business .. till the coming Saturday”(pg. 14). He leaves money and later sends bonbons which Edna shares with the ladies. They comment on how wonderful and the best husband in the world which Edna “was forced to admit that she knew of no better”( pg.15)
