Chapter 8

As Mdm. R and Robert are walking back to the cottages  Mdm. R tells Robert to leave Mrs. Pontellier alone. They then argue about how Robert just flirts with women and that his intentions are not something he would follow through. She insults him and continues to say that Edna may take him seriously and that things wouldn’t be like they are between them Robert and her change topics after them disagreeing  for the rest of the walk. When at her cottage Robert goes to the kitchen and makes her “golden-brown bouillon..with a flaky cracker or two on the saucer”(Chopin,pg.37).

The lovers are walking back but there is no sign of Mrs. Pontellier or the children knowing they won’t be back till dinner. Robert goes to the house and reads while his mom works on the sewing machine. They have a conversation from time to time. Robert reads and at one point they see victor, the younger brother, drove away with the rockaway.Victor is very hardheaded, and Mdm. Lebrun comments on how it be if her husband was alive.  She also tells him about the letter Montel had sent. Montel is a middle-aged man who wanted to take the place of Monsieur Lebrun. Mdm. L also tells her son about Montel being in VeraCruzz but she hadn’t told her son. He questions his mom’s actions and she changes the subject to where Edna and the children are. Robert leaves to take the Goncourt to Edna.
