Mr. Pontellier goes to Doctor Mandelet and talks to him about how Edna has changed. It has start to worry him that she has left her duties. Her going out by herself, mopping in the street cars, and coming back after dark. He goes on about his reasons even about his feelings towards his father-in-law who he isn’t found of. Although he is willing to send her to her sister’s wedding which she refuses to do.
Dr. tell Mr. Pontellier to leave Edna alone that is just her being a woman and to not look much in to it. He tells him to send her to his office and he would see what’s wrong which to Léonce quickly rejects. The offer of Dr. Mandelet going to dinner on the other hand is much more pleasing and quickly arranged. Content with his work Mr. Pontellier leaves but never asked if ther is another man in Edna’s life out of respect.
