Chapter 16

Everyone has left the grand isle, except for some like Mademoiselle Reisz, Mdm. Lebrum and a small minority.Mademoiselle makes company to Edna and they talk about Robert and other things while at the beach. Mademoielle also comes to Edna while she’s working and “chatted in intervals as Robert had done.”(Chopin, pg 77).  During the last days Edna spends time with Mdm. Leburm looking at pictures of Robert as a kid and talking about him. This brings sorrow to her. She has feelings for him and the reminder of him just upsets her.  When Edna’s husband comes and speaks about his encounter with Robert she asks many questions. She doesn’t keep her interest unknown.

While she and Mdm. R  are spending time together Edna makes it clear she won’t ” give up herself”(Chopin, pg. 80). The following day Edna and Mademoiselle Reisz converse about Edna missing Robert, Robert’s past, and about the difference between Robert and his brother Victor.”For some reason she felt depressed, almost unhappy.”(Chopin, pg. 83)
