Edna arrives at Mademoiselle’s small home. Its very small but the area is well used. The piano being the main thing Edna spots upon her arrival. Mademoiselle offers her a cup off coffe after telling her how she thought Edna wouldn’t pay her a visit. As the conversation continues Mademoiselle tells Edna about the letter she has revived from Robert. Edna becomes suspicious about why he wrote to Mademoiselle and not her. When told the topic of Robert’s letter was no one but herself she becomes entreating to see it. Mademoiselle refuses and the topic changes a couple of times but comes back to the letter. Finally Mademoiselle lets Edna read it and plays Chopin Impromptu. While the chorus plays Edna reads the letter. She sobs as she reads it. After she stops she asks before leaving if she can come back. Mademoiselle says yes and warns Edna to watch her steps as she descends the stairs. After her departure Mademoiselle cleans and puts the letter in the envelope and back in the table drawer.
