Character analysis

In The awakening, Kate Chopin demonstrates the nature of rejection through Edna and Alcée. At this point Edna has changed a lot throughout the book. She wants to be with Robert who is in Mexico, but doesn’t care for her husband or children much.Being alone and free excites her and shows how she is rebellious against social standards. This sums up to her rejecting Alcée. He is charming, and of upper class. He uses all of his attitudes once attracted to Edna, but they don’t help. His actions with Edna directly affect her marriage and her thoughts.
