It’s late in the day and Edna is now resting, Alcee comes and makes her company. He is surprised by finding her in such a great mood. She says ” Don’t you know the weather prophet has told us we shall see the sun pretty soon.”(Chopin, pg. 137). Edna says this is the reason of her happiness but it has a deeper meaning , the soon return of Robert has her this way. As they where talking about their thoughts , mostly about who Edna is and about Mademoiselle Reisz .Edna knows her is intrigued about what she has said” The bird that would soar above the level of plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings.It is a sad spectacle to see the weakling bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth.” (Chopin,pg. 138). Alcee is very close to Edna and he kisses her after they talk. This kiss is welcomed by both and it’s different yet “it was a flaming torch that kindled desire.” (Chopin, pg. 139).
